Everything you need to know about Capture Australia's photo digitisation service: how the touchless album scanning works, pricing, turnaround, what you receive, and where to drop off in Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane.
Capture Australia digitises bound photo albums using proprietary glare-removal technology. Photos stay in the album, in their sleeves, behind glass or in their frames. No removal required, and your originals never leave the partner shop. We can also scan loose prints, individual photographs and large or framed prints up to 45cm x 70cm. We do not scan slides, negatives or film of any format. Photo phone-scans are not a substitute, as they typically suffer from glare, distortion and low resolution that ruin reprints and photobooks.
Pricing depends on your partner shop and the size and type of your collection. Each partner sets their own rates and the final count is always confirmed at drop-off before any work begins. For large collections of 500 photos or more, scanning can often work out to around one dollar per photo or less. Ask your partner shop about scanning your whole collection.
Capture Australia is available at six authorised partner locations across Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane, plus our Capture Service Centre at 82 Waterloo Road, Macquarie Park NSW 2113. Sydney partners are Photoland in the CBD, Camera House Drummoyne, Camera House Hornsby Westfield, and Framers Warehouse in Mona Vale. Our Canberra partner is Lucent Imaging in Fyshwick (by appointment). Our Brisbane partner is RetroMedia in Windsor.
You receive high-resolution JPEG files compatible with Google Photos, iCloud and other cloud photo services. Files are delivered on USB drive or by secure cloud download. An optional USB flash drive is available for $20 and is included free for collections of 500 or more photos. Turnaround is typically two to three weeks depending on volume and current queue length at the partner shop.
Capture Australia is a professional, in-person photo scanning service, not an app or DIY phone-scanning tool. All scanning is performed on-site at the partner store using proprietary equipment. Albums and prints never leave the partner premises.
